DAY 1

MORNING PRAYER

Each year we will focus on a different aspect of the relationship we have with Jesus Christ, and how that relationship informs and inspires our relationships with our friends, families, and community. For the 2026-27 school year, we will focus on Christ is Alive! He hears us! – Le Christ vit! Il nous entend! The theme of Christ is Alive! / Christus Vivit! comes from our late-Pope Francis and speaks directly to our young people in this world. He reminds us that even though Jesus Christ died for our sins, He was resurrected and continues to live with us, in this world and in our spirit! Pope Francis reminded us that by following our living God all throughout our lives, the impact that this has on us can transform us. By following Him from birth to our last breath, we will continue to mature in our faith, spreading peace, love and joy to the world. For this year, our subtheme is: “He hears us!”. One of the ways that we know that Christ is alive is that when we pray, He hears us. Only a living God, who loves us and is all powerful, can do this. At times though, it may seem like our prayers go unanswered or we are still left with questions. We must remember that God’s understanding is greater than ours. Even though it may seem that we are not heard at times, through our faith, we begin to understand God’s unending grace and His perfect love for us. God is always listening. As we celebrate God’s love for us this year, and thank Him for hearing us, let us never forget – Christus Vivit!

Lord Jesus Christ our living God,

We thank You for hearing us.

We know that You truly love us and are perfect in all Your ways.

When we pray this year, help us to remember that You are there -

always with us.

Help us remember always that You are alive!

For our prayers that are answered, 

and for the things we do not even pray for, but receive, we thank you.

Please continue to guide us,

Even when I feel as though my prayers are unheard,

or if we are still left with questions.

I know that You always want the best for me.

I know things do not always go the way I want,

but thank You for always listening to me.

DRIVER EDUCATION 2026 - 2027

Students who are interested in the 2025 - 2026 driver education program are to register online through the QR code below or Microsoft Forms link: Driver Education Registration 2026 - 2027 (This link is also posted in Edsby.) Mr. Bourdon will then place students into groups on Edsby. A reminder that spots fill up quickly, so it is important for students to select their two top options to best accommodate each student. 

The start dates for session are as follows:

        Session 1: Sept. 8 - Sept. 28 (3:30 pm - 5:30 pm)

Session 2: Oct. 5 - Oct. 27 (3:30 pm - 5:30 pm)

CROSS-COUNTRY SIGN-UP MEETING

There will be a sign-up meeting for cross-country on Thursday, September 3rd at 12:30 pm in Room 246. Students who are interested in joining, are encouraged to attend this meeting. No experience is required! If you are unable to attend the meeting, but want to join the cross-country team, please see Ms. Vermette in room 246 before Wednesday, September 9th. 

SMHS GOLF TEAM SIGN-UP

Students who are interested in joining the SMHS Golf Team this fall are encouraged to attend a very brief meeting on Thursday, September 3 at 12:15pm in Room 240 (Mrs. Nelson's classroom) AND complete a very short survey available using the QR code below or the link: SMHS Golf Team - Fall 2026 – Fill out form. If you have any questions, please ask Mrs. C. SMHS JUNIOR FOOTBALL

Jr Football is going to start on the first day of school, Wednesday, September 2nd from 3:45-5:00 p.m. with equipment fitting from 5:00 - 5:30 p.m. NO experience or equipment is required (personal cleats are recommended). The first tournament will be Saturday, September 12th. Students who are interested can talk to Mr. Abbs in Room 144.

GIRLS SOCCER

Any Grad 9 – 12 girls interested in joining the senior girls soccer team this season are to meet in Mrs. Gareau's room (210) on Thursday, September 3^rd at 12:30 pm. Students will sign up and receive information about the training sessions. Please see Mr. or Mrs. Gareau if you want to sign up, but cannot attend the meeting.

A team meeting will be held Thursday, September 3rd at lunch (12:14pm) in room 209 (located on the second floor, overlooking the Commons).

UPSTAGE PRODUCTIONS: Fall Drama

The first Upstage Productions meeting is on Friday, September 4th at 12:30 pm in the Lecture Theatre (B05). Sign-up sheets for Auditions and Tech Interviews will be posted on Friday, September 4th, outside the Lecture Theatre, as well. Auditions will Tuesday, September 8th or Wednesday, September 9th, after school. Interview slots for the tech crew will be available Tues/Wed/Thurs at lunch and after school on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL OFFICIATING CLINICS

An online clinic is available on Tuesday, September 8^th from 3:30 - 4:30pm. This will be free to attend and give participants and idea of what is involved in officiating volleyball.  Click HERE to register. An in-person clinic at St. Mary School is available on Monday, September 14^th at 7:00pm. This will be free to attend and will allow participants to get their level 1 training. There will be both classroom and on-court training. ** Our school will be looking for officials to work league games that are held at St. Mary starting in September.  This is a great way to earn some money while also learning some great life skills. Please contact Mr. Noble if you have any questions.

MODEL UN MEETING

Our first Model UN Meeting will be on Monday, September 14 at 12:30 in Rm 238 (Mr. Joncas). Please pass on the word to friends who you think might be interested. This will only be a sign-up and informational meeting. No commitment is required at this time!

GAMES CLUB 

Games Club is every Monday and Wednesday in Room 132 at lunch. Drop in and play some board games or test your skills on the Switch. See Mr. Gibson if you have any questions. Games Club begins on Wednesday, September 9th.

SMHS RESOURCES EDSBY GROUP: Students/Parents/Staff

All staff, students and parents are encouraged to select and SIGN UP for the SMHS Resources Edsby Group. It contains information pertaining to the Ecole St Mary High School website (morning prayer, daily announcements, cafeteria menu etc.), the Learning Resource Centre website (Book Promotions, Library Search, Ministry databases etc.) and SMHS Career Planning website (Blog entries for scholarships/events, high school graduation credits, post-secondary requirements etc.)

PRINCE ALBERT PUBLIC LIBRARY: Makers Market

PAPL MAKERS MARKET: Volunteers Needed
The Prince Albert Public Library needs 8 volunteers for the Makers Market on Saturday, October 17^th to help with face painting, assisting children with creating artwork (paint and stickers), greeting families, and helping keep the activity area organized. The Morning Shift is 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (4 volunteers) and the Afternoon Shift is 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. (4 volunteers). Students who are interested should contact Vieng Enchanh at the public library or by email venchanh@princealbertlibrary.ca.

INDIGENOUS ART CLUB 

Students will begin to enhance their skills by working primarily with beads. Artisan trainees will start learning to bead using the 2-needle applique method during the following meeting times: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am - 8:45 am and lunch hour, as well as Wednesday: 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm, unless otherwise posted for special event teachings. All participants will be asked to log their hours. The expected time that a project may require ranges from 4 to 30 hours or more. Sessions will enhance students’ skill levels, enabling them to confidently participate at regional, provincial and national levels of Skills Canada competitions. Students will be able to compete at the school level, city and provincial levels this year based on performance and dedication to the skill required. See Mrs. Longjohn-Constant in room B26 for more details. 

FREE FEMININE MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS

École St Mary High School has received free feminine menstrual products to support our students. Students can go to the main office for their free products (box of tampons and a box of pads). Menstrual Equity in Saskatchewan Schools is a three-year initiative.

PA PUBLIC LIBRARY: Fiero Code

Fiero Code is a web-based computer-programming education resource for kids (ages 8+), teens, and adults. Learn how to code using Code Blocks, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL, and much more. This educational resource will teach users how to create video games, apps, websites, animations, programs, etc. Fiero Code provides courses, tutorial videos, contest events, and more. From beginner to advanced, there is something for everyone with Fiero Code! (A Public Library Card is required.)
