MORNING PRAYER

Today is the Feast Day of St. Gregory the Great. St. Gregory lived in Rome during a period of wars, invasions by hostile tribes, famine, and destruction. Despite the trying times of his day, St. Gregory found a way to be generous and concerned for the poor. He also converted his family estate in Rome into the Abbey of St. Andrew, became a monk there, and founded six Benedictine monasteries on his estates in Sicily. Due to his life of service and devotion to God, Gregory was acclaimed pope by the clergy and the people of Rome in 590 AD. His achievements were many and had a widespread effect, but Gregory became a saint because of his love for God, which was reflected in all that he did.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

CHOIR MEETING
The first meeting for choir will be on Tuesday, September 8th at 8 a.m. in the Lecture Theatre. Choir is available to students in grades 10-12 as a credit course, and open to all students as an extracurricular activity.

JAZZ BAND MEETING
Any students who want to be in jazz band are encouraged to attend a meeting on Wednesday, September 9^th at 3:30 pm in the music room (B3).

MODEL UN MEETING
Are you interested in current events, world politics, history, debating, and research? If so, Model UN might be for you! Model UN is a club where students come together as delegates representing countries from around the world to discuss current global issues. Through Model UN, students develop valuable skills in research, public speaking, debate, negotiation, and diplomacy. If you're interested, come check it out on Monday, September 14th at 12:30 p.m. in Room 238 (Mr. Joncas). No experience is necessary! If you're interested but unable to attend, please contact Mrs. Kirilenko, Mrs. Morhart, Mr. Welter, or Mr. Joncas for more information.

AUDIOVISUAL & LIVESTREAMING CREW: Meeting

Are you interested in audiovisual, filming, and cameras? Would you like to learn how to operate a live streaming app, or a mini drone? The A/V & Livestreaming Crew will be in charge of recording major school events like football games, drama/musical productions, and concerts. Contrary to other years, we will focus less on setting up, and more on actual operations. Come learn a skill! If you're interested, come check it out on Thursday, September 17th at 12:30 p.m. in Room 238 (Mr. Joncas). No experience is necessary! RIDE FOR REFUGE: Fundraiser for Catholic Family Services
Once again, St. Mary High School is fundraising for Catholic Family Services through the Ride for Refuge event. Funds raised support mental health programs that benefit members of our entire community. The event will take place on Saturday, October 3RD at the Alfred Jenkins Centre (exact time to be determined). Staff, students, and families are invited to support this important cause by either joining the St. Mary team or donating. Please contact Mr. Joncas if you have any questions.

There will be a sign-up meeting for cross-country on Thursday, September 3rd at 12:30 pm in Room 246. Students who are interested in joining, are encouraged to attend this meeting. No experience is required! If you are unable to attend the meeting, but want to join the cross-country team, please see Ms. Vermette in room 246 before Wednesday, September 9th. 

SMHS GOLF TEAM SIGN-UP

GIRLS SOCCER

Any Grad 9 – 12 girls interested in joining the senior girls soccer team this season are to meet in Mrs. Gareau's room (210) on Thursday, September 3^rd at 12:30 pm. Students will sign up and receive information about the training sessions. Please see Mr. or Mrs. Gareau if you want to sign up, but cannot attend the meeting.

UPSTAGE PRODUCTIONS: Fall Drama

The first Upstage Productions meeting is on Friday, September 4th at 12:30 pm in the Lecture Theatre (B05). Sign-up sheets for Auditions and Tech Interviews will be posted on Friday, September 4th, outside the Lecture Theatre, as well. Auditions will Tuesday, September 8th or Wednesday, September 9th, after school. Interview slots for the tech crew will be available Tues/Wed/Thurs at lunch and after school on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL OFFICIATING CLINICS

An online clinic is available on Tuesday, September 8^th from 3:30 - 4:30pm. This will be free to attend and give participants and idea of what is involved in officiating volleyball.  Click HERE to register. An in-person clinic at St. Mary School is available on Monday, September 14^th at 7:00pm. This will be free to attend and will allow participants to get their level 1 training. There will be both classroom and on-court training. ** Our school will be looking for officials to work league games that are held at St. Mary starting in September.  This is a great way to earn some money while also learning some great life skills. Please contact Mr. Noble if you have any questions.

DRIVER EDUCATION 2026 - 2027

Students who are interested in the 2025 - 2026 driver education program are to register online through the QR code below or Microsoft Forms link: Driver Education Registration 2026 - 2027 (This link is also posted in Edsby.) Mr. Bourdon will then place students into groups on Edsby. A reminder that spots fill up quickly, so it is important for students to select their two top options to best accommodate each student. 

The start dates for session are as follows:

Session 2: Oct. 5 - Oct. 27 (3:30 pm - 5:30 pm)

• your MYSGI account number (needed on the first day of class)
• Students must go to SGI to get their MySGI customer number.

GAMES CLUB 

Games Club is every Monday and Wednesday in Room 132 at lunch. Drop in and play some board games or test your skills on the Switch. See Mr. Gibson if you have any questions. Games Club begins on Wednesday, September 9th.

SMHS RESOURCES EDSBY GROUP: Students/Parents/Staff

All staff, students and parents are encouraged to select and SIGN UP for the SMHS Resources Edsby Group. It contains information pertaining to the Ecole St Mary High School website (morning prayer, daily announcements, cafeteria menu etc.), the Learning Resource Centre website (Book Promotions, Library Search, Ministry databases etc.) and SMHS Career Planning website (Blog entries for scholarships/events, high school graduation credits, post-secondary requirements etc.)

PRINCE ALBERT PUBLIC LIBRARY: Makers Market

PAPL MAKERS MARKET: Volunteers Needed
The Prince Albert Public Library needs 8 volunteers for the Makers Market on Saturday, October 17^th to help with face painting, assisting children with creating artwork (paint and stickers), greeting families, and helping keep the activity area organized. The Morning Shift is 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (4 volunteers) and the Afternoon Shift is 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. (4 volunteers). Students who are interested should contact Vieng Enchanh at the public library or by email venchanh@princealbertlibrary.ca.

INDIGENOUS ART CLUB 

Students will begin to enhance their skills by working primarily with beads. Artisan trainees will start learning to bead using the 2-needle applique method during the following meeting times: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am - 8:45 am and lunch hour, as well as Wednesday: 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm, unless otherwise posted for special event teachings. All participants will be asked to log their hours. The expected time that a project may require ranges from 4 to 30 hours or more. Sessions will enhance students’ skill levels, enabling them to confidently participate at regional, provincial and national levels of Skills Canada competitions. Students will be able to compete at the school level, city and provincial levels this year based on performance and dedication to the skill required. See Mrs. Longjohn-Constant in room B26 for more details. 

FREE FEMININE MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS

École St Mary High School has received free feminine menstrual products to support our students. Students can go to the main office for their free products (box of tampons and a box of pads). Menstrual Equity in Saskatchewan Schools is a three-year initiative.

PA PUBLIC LIBRARY: Fiero Code

Fiero Code is a web-based computer-programming education resource for kids (ages 8+), teens, and adults. Learn how to code using Code Blocks, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL, and much more. This educational resource will teach users how to create video games, apps, websites, animations, programs, etc. Fiero Code provides courses, tutorial videos, contest events, and more. From beginner to advanced, there is something for everyone with Fiero Code! (A Public Library Card is required.)
