DAY 1

MORNING PRAYER

The Gospel reading that accompanies this week of prayers for Christian unity comes from the Gospel according to John. The key takeaway from this reading was something that Martha said to Jesus as she was mourning the loss of her brother, Lazarus before Jesus had resurrected him:

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

“Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

This Gospel passage reminds us that although we may have our differences, as followers of Christ, we can all look to Him the same, as the resurrection and the life. This unites us as followers of Christ who were given the mission to share this news for all to hear.
God of life,
You have created us to have life,
and life in all its fullness.
May we recognize, in our brothers and sisters,
their desire for eternal life.
As we follow Jesus’ way with determination,
may we lead others to You.
We pray in His name.
Amen.
