CREDIT UNION YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS: 12 x $5,000

Conexus Credit Union is awarding 12 scholarships of $5,000 each to graduating high school students who are making a difference in their communities through leadership and volunteer efforts. To be eligible: students or their parent/legal guardian must be a member of Conexus Credit Union, Cornerstone Credit Union, or Synergy Credit Union for a minimum of one year and with accounts in good standing; students must be graduating from high school in the current academic school year; and students must complete all sections of the application form, including all required supporting documents by Friday, May 15. Applications close at 4:30 pm CST on Friday May 15, 2026.  For additional information and to apply go to conexus.ca/YLA.

JUNE AWARDS

During the "Thanksgiving for the School Year Celebration and Awards Assembly" on June 3rd students will be receiving awards based on their successes in and out of the classroom. Most of the awards do not require application as they are based on academic grades, coaching/staff selection from various extra-curricular activities. There are however, some awards that require a student application based on the criteria of the award. Please see those awards below and select any or all that pertain to you as a student. a) Grade 9 – 11 General Proficiency Award

The Grade 9 – 11 General Proficiency Award is a non-monetary award given to a student in grade 9, grade 10, and grade 11. It recognizes the student’s contribution to the whole life of St. Mary High School and is based on the following criteria: academic achievement 50%, extra-curricular contributions 40%, and religious life contributions 10%.  Grade 9 - 11 General Proficiency Award Application Form The deadline to apply is Friday, May 8^th.

b) John M. Cuelenaere Public Library Scholarship: Grade 9-12

The John M. Cuelenaere Public Library Scholarship of $250 is a recognition of a Grade 9 – 12 student who has been enrolled full-time in the academic year of 2024-2025. Candidates are students who have distinguished themselves by being an advocate for literacy in their school or the community and clearly demonstrate a love of reading. While high academics is not a requirement for applying, the student must have a Prince Albert Public Library (PAPL) card and plans for post-secondary education. Preference will also be given to former or current employees of John M. Cuelenaere Library, as well as a current Grade 12 student of École St. Mary High School. John M. c) Rotary Citizenship Scholarship: Grade 11 or 12

The Rotary Citizenship Scholarship of $400 is a recognition of a Grade 11 or 12 student that exhibits the characteristics of strong citizenship. It is modeled after the Rotary Adventure in Citizenship program with criteria that includes, strong academics, with strong character within the school environment, as well as the community. Candidates are students that respect and deal fairly with their fellow students, as well as participate in school and non-school activities that enhance their lives and the lives of those around them. The students should be planning some type of post-secondary education or training to enhance their personal skills. Rotary Citizenship Award Application form The deadline to apply is Friday, May 8^th.

d) Major/Minor Sports Award: Grade 12

The Major/Minor Sports awards are presented to grade 12 students that have showcased a significant involvement with athletics during their time at École St. Mary High School. If you are in grade 12, you may be eligible for a Major/Minor Sports Award that will be presented during the ‘Thanksgiving for the School Year Celebration and Awards Assembly’. The Marauder Award honors one Grade 12 student who has made an exceptional impact on the life of École St. Mary High School through meaningful involvement beyond the classroom. This student consistently shares their time, energy, and talents through activities such as athletics, clubs, fine arts, student leadership, or school‑sponsored events, helping to foster a positive, spirited, and connected school community. Please complete the nomination form to nominate a Grade 12 student. Nominations must include a one‑paragraph description outlining why the student should be considered for the Marauder Award. SLC HOODIE ARRIVAL!!

The SLC is happy to announce that the hoodie order is now in!! Students must pay for their sweaters before they can pick them up from Mrs. Gareau's class (Room 210). The $50 fee can be paid with cash/debit at the main office, OR online through your School Cash account. Thank you for supporting this SLC-led initiative, and thanks again to Hannah Aikoye for her winning design! We can't wait to see you rep this new St. Mary gear!!

ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF PA: Youth Rally April 25th

The Catholic Diocese of Prince Albert is INVITING YOU to a Youth Rally on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at your school, École St. Mary High School, Prince Albert, from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM. This year's theme is Love is a Verb. The day includes music, activities, and time to connect with other young people from across the diocese. The rally will feature the Face-to-Face Ministries team, who will be leading the day through music, sessions, and prayer. The rally is open to students age 12 and up. Sign up! CANADIAN FEDERATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN: Book Sale

TRACK AND FIELD SEASON

The season will start Monday, April 27th. A list of practice times will be posted outside the main gym doors. There will be a variety of coaches that will work with athletes during morning, noon, or after school sessions. Students are not required to attend all sessions, but they must attend at least 5 practice sessions before being eligible to attend the district meet. There are two meets in Prince Albert this season: an open meet on Friday, May 22^nd that anyone can attend and use to prepare for the season, and the District Qualifier Meet on Wednesday, May 27^th and Thursday, May 28^th that athletes must attend if they want to qualify for provincials. Students who are in the top 2 in an event at Districts will qualify for the Provincial meet on Friday, June 5^th and Saturday, June 6^th in Saskatoon. PRINCE ALBERT PUBLIC LIBRARY: April Programs Guide

PAATA SCHOLARSHIP: 4 x $1000

The Prince Albert and Area Teachers’ Association (PAATA) awards four $1,000 scholarships to graduating Grade 12 students who are pursuing post-secondary studies related to the field of education. This includes careers focused on teaching, educational support, child and youth development, community education, and service-based professions. If these categories are not filled, the committee will entertain additional fields. Applicants must be graduating in the year of application, accepted to a recognized post-secondary institution, and submit a complete application package by April 30. Scholarships are available to students from PACSD, Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division (Urban and Rural), and children of active or recent PAATA members. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership and community involvement, the personal essay, references, and overall completeness of the application. SASKTEL INDIGENOUS YOUTH AWARDS: Gr 9-12

The SaskTel Indigenous Youth Awards of Excellence recognize youth achievement in the following categories: Outstanding Academic Achievement, Leadership, Culture & Community, Sports/Recreation, and Arts & Science. Applicants can apply in multiple categories but can only win once. Eligibility criteria includes: must be of First Nations, Metis, or Inuit ancestry; must be between 14 and 18 years of age as of June 28, 2025; must be a resident of Saskatchewan and a registered student in Saskatchewan; must be able to demonstrate outstanding commitment and/or ability in one of the award categories (2 reference letters are required with current contact information for each reference as they will be contacted). The deadline for applications is Thursday, April 30, 2026. The awards event will be held Friday, June 5, 2026. LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL

École St Mary High School invites the community to Upstage Productions' two-act play, Legally Blonde The Musical. Harvard's beloved blonde takes the stage by pink storm in this fun, upbeat story of self-discovery. A fabulously fun award-winning musical based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde The Musical, follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Action-packed and exploding with memorable songs and dynamic dances - this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal! Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle ingeniously charms her way into the prestigious law school. While there, she struggles with peers, professors and her ex. With the support of some new friends, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world. Showtimes at the E.A. SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS

École St. Mary High School is pleased to offer its annual Sports Camp for students entering Grades 5–12, including the introduction of a new Grades 5–6 camp. The Grades 5–6 camp will take place on August 20–21 and is designed to introduce younger students to basketball and volleyball in a fun, structured, and age‑appropriate environment that focuses on fundamental skills and confidence building. The camp also continues to offer programming for students entering Grades 7–12. Basketball camp for Grades 7–12 will be held on August 13–14, followed by volleyball camp on August 17–19. All camps are led by experienced École St. Mary coaches and alumni who emphasize skill development, teamwork, positive participation, and personal growth. Camp sessions are structured to ensure athletes receive quality instruction while remaining active and engaged throughout the day. All camps take place in a safe, school‑based setting and include a camp T‑shirt. LAKE COUNTRY CO-OP STUDENT BURSARY: 3 x $2,500

Lake Country Co-op Student Bursary Program is offering three $2,500 bursaries to secondary schools within the trading area. To be eligible, the student must be: a grade 12 student graduating in 2026 and enrolled in full-time studies at a University, Post-Secondary Institution, or Technical Institute for the fall 2026 term; a permanent resident in the Lake Country Co-op trading area; a Lake Country Co-op Member (parent/guardian membership will be accepted); and willing to allow Lake Country Co-op to use submissions for advertising purposes. Applicants will be evaluated based on involvement in school and community activities, as well as the successful completion of grade 12, and acceptance in post-secondary studies. To be considered, the application requires the completion of the questions, as well as a written essay and a video submission. Written Essay Question: What can Lake Country Co-op do to better serve the youth of our communities and encourage their involvement in the local Co-op? DRIVER EDUCATION 2025 - 2026

Students who are interested in the 2025 - 2026 driver education program are to register online through Microsoft Forms: Driver Education Registration 2025 - 2026 (This link is also posted in Edsby.) Mr. Bourdon will then place students into groups on Edsby. A reminder that spots fill up quickly, so it is important for students to select their two top options to best accommodate each student.

It contains information pertaining to the Ecole St Mary High School website (morning prayer, daily announcements, cafeteria menu etc.), the Learning Resource Centre website (Book Promotions, Library Search, Ministry databases etc.) and SMHS Career Planning website (Blog entries for scholarships/events, high school graduation credits, post-secondary requirements etc.)

HOMEWORK CLUB
Need a quiet spot to focus on your homework, use a computer, study for an exam, or simply to enjoy your lunch in peace? Then come join us in Room B20 (Mr. Kirilenko's classroom)! Homework Club runs Monday to Friday from 12:14 pm to 1:14pm. All students are welcome to attend!

ART CLUB 

Art Club is every Thursday from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm in the Art Room. Drop-ins are always welcome! 

GAMES CLUB 

Games Club is every Tuesday and Thursday in the Lecture Theatre at lunch. Drop in and play some board games or test your skills on the Switch. 

YEARBOOK CLUB 

Help capture school memories! A camera is supplied! No experience is needed! Students who are interested should contact Mrs. Janay Cantin.

INDIGENOUS ART CLUB 

Students will begin to enhance their skills by working primarily with beads. Artisan trainees will start learning to bead using the 2-needle applique method during the following meeting times: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am - 8:45 am and lunch hour, as well as Wednesday: 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm, unless otherwise posted for special event teachings. All participants will be asked to log their hours. The expected time that a project may require ranges from 4 to 30 hours or more. Sessions will enhance students’ skill levels, enabling them to confidently participate at regional, provincial and national levels of Skills Canada competitions. Students will be able to compete at the school level, city and provincial levels this year based on performance and dedication to the skill required. See Mrs. Longjohn-Constant in room B26 for more details. 

FREE FEMININE MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS

École St Mary High School has received free feminine menstrual products to support our students. Students can go to the main office for their free products (box of tampons and a box of pads). Menstrual Equity in Saskatchewan Schools is a three-year initiative.

Fiero Code is a web-based computer-programming education resource for kids (ages 8+), teens, and adults. Learn how to code using Code Blocks, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL, and much more. This educational resource will teach users how to create video games, apps, websites, animations, programs, etc. Fiero Code provides courses, tutorial videos, contest events, and more. From beginner to advanced, there is something for everyone with Fiero Code! (A Public Library Card is required.)
