Yesterday we heard about the Catholic Social Teachings. Today we will look at the first Catholic Social Teaching: Life and Dignity. This teaching helps us to remember that all life is precious and that all humans have dignity because they are created in the image of God.

UPSTAGE PRODUCTIONS: “Radium Girls”

École St Mary High School invites the community to Upstage Productions' two-act play, "Radium Girls”. Show times at the École St. Mary High School Lecture Theatre are Wednesday, November 19th - Saturday, November 22nd at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for Adults and $8 for Students (18 years and younger) and are available at the main office or at the door (cash, electronic payment). 

* Grade 9 students will be attending morning performances on Wednesday and Thursday.

** Grade 10 - 12 students may go to the main office to get a FREE stamped BLUE ticket for an evening performance. (Office staff will create a list of the students who get a FREE ticket.)

Synopsis

In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Her chief adversary is her former employer, Arthur Roeder, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumors could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees. As the case goes on, however, Grace finds herself battling not just with the U.S. Radium Corporation, but with her own family and friends, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire. Written with warmth and humor, Radium Girls is a fast-moving, highly theatrical ensemble piece for 9 to 10 actors, who play more than 30 parts—friends, co-workers, lovers, relatives, attorneys, scientists, consumer advocates, and myriad interested bystanders. Called a "powerful" and "engrossing" drama by critics, Radium Girls offers a wry, unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.

SMHS BAND FUNDRAISER: Baba’s Homestyle Perogies

The students in Band are selling products from Baba's perogies as a fundraiser for the 2026 band trip. All products are handmade in Saskatoon and are absolutely delicious! To purchase perogies, cabbage rolls, sausage, or other yummy treats, use the link

SMHS CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some Christmas music on Tuesday, December 9th at 7:00 pm in the Lecture Theatre. Admission is by donation with all funds going toward the 2026 band trip.

SUNTEP TOUR & PRESENTATION

Students have the opportunity to sign-up for a tour and presentation at SUNTEP on Thursday, November 27th at 1:30pm. The presentation is about 1 hour and transportation is provided. Grade 10-12 students who are interested in going for the tour are asked to sign up at SUNTEP Tour – Fill out form before Tuesday, November 25th at noon. Information about the program is in the link below.

U of R: CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP

The Chancellor’s Scholarship is awarded annually to 14 undergraduate students who meet a variety of criteria, including a minimum admission average of 95%. This scholarship is being offered to students directly from high school, or high school graduates who have not completed any post-secondary course (other than those completed while the student was still in high school, such as the High School Accelerated Program). One award is reserved for Indigenous applicants and one award is reserved for out-of-province applicants. The recipients will receive $10,000 a year over four years, plus on-campus housing for the first year. The value of each scholarship is just over $46,000.  An application is required and includes a written statement, resume, reference letter, and referee. The deadline to apply is December 15, 2025. Additional information is available at https://www.uregina.ca/cost-aid/funding/undergraduate-scholarships/entrance-awards/chancellors-scholarship.html

TERRY FOX HUMANITARIAN AWARD PROGRAM

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program aims to honour the spirit of Terry Fox, one of Canada’s greatest heroes, by encouraging Canadian youth who strive to emulate Terry Fox’s courage and determination by providing their communities, and those in need, with humanitarian service. Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to students of all abilities. To be considered for the Award, applicants must be: in good academic standing; Canadian citizens or landed immigrants; students graduating from secondary (high) school or students completing their first year of CÉGEP or students who have completed secondary (high) school; involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated); and planning to or are already studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution, or entering their 2nd year of CÉGEP in the upcoming academic year. Terry Fox Award Recipients are eligible to receive the Award until they graduate with their first university degree or diploma (for a maximum of four years), provided they maintain satisfactory academic standing and a standard of humanitarian work and personal conduct which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, justifies the award. The maximum value of the award is $28,000, dispersed over four (4) years. MODEL UN ASSEMBLY: December Session

In preparation for the Model UN Assembly in the spring, there will be a a mini Model UN Assembly on Tuesday, December 16^th from 3:45 pm to 6:30 pm in the Lecture Theatre. Staff and students who want to watch must contact Mr. Joncas, as there are limited spots. St. Mary students will compete alongside students from Carlton and Shellbrook WP Sandin.

EDSBY MESSAGE: November Overdue/Lost

In a few days, all Grade 9 – Grade 12 students with Overdue/Lost library books, textbooks, novel sets and calculators will be receiving an Edsby message titled “November Overdue/Lost”. It will have a screen capture of their library account listing these items. All Grade 10 - 12 students with Overdue/Lost textbooks, novel sets and calculators will have these items added to their SchoolCash account. These items can be paid online (SchoolCash access on the division website at www.pacsd.ca) or in the main office. 

LAPTOPS, HOMEWORK HELP & LUNCH

Do you want access to a computer laptop AND help with your homework, essay formatting, submitting assignments etc.? If so, go to Mr. Kirilenko’s Homework Club during the lunch hour in Room B20. Students are also allowed to bring their lunch.

BASKETBALL OFFICIALS CLINIC

Any students or community members who want to get involved with officiating some level of basketball are invited to the basketball officials clinics. A virtual clinic will be held on Wednesday, November 26th. If you have any questions about the clinics, please see Mr. Noble.

Students who are interested in the 2025 - 2026 driver education program are to register online through Microsoft Forms: Driver Education Registration 2025 - 2026 (This link is also posted in Edsby.) Mr. Bourdon will then place students into groups on Edsby. A reminder that spots fill up quickly, so it is important for students to select their two top options to best accommodate each student.

Games Club is every Tuesday and Thursday in the Lecture Theatre at lunch. Drop in and play some board games or test your skills on the Switch.

Help capture school memories! A camera is supplied! No experience is needed! Students who are interested should contact Mrs. Janay Cantin.

HOMEWORK CLUB
Need a quiet spot to focus on your homework, use a computer, study for an exam, or simply to enjoy your lunch in peace? Then come join us in Room B20 (Mr. Kirilenko's classroom)! Homework Club runs Monday to Friday from 12:14 pm to 1:14pm. All students are welcome to attend!

INDIGENOUS ART CLUB 

Students will begin to enhance their skills by working primarily with beads. Artisan trainees will start learning to bead using the 2-needle applique method during the following meeting times: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am - 8:45 am and lunch hour, as well as Wednesday: 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm, unless otherwise posted for special event teachings. All participants will be asked to log their hours. The expected time that a project may require ranges from 4 to 30 hours or more. Sessions will enhance students’ skill levels, enabling them to confidently participate at regional, provincial and national levels of Skills Canada competitions. Students will be able to compete at the school level, city and provincial levels this year based on performance and dedication to the skill required. See Mrs. Longjohn-Constant in room B26 for more details. 

FREE FEMININE MENSTRUAL PRODUCTS

École St Mary High School has received free feminine menstrual products to support our students. Students can go to the main office for their free products (box of tampons and a box of pads). Menstrual Equity in Saskatchewan Schools is a three-year initiative.

Fiero Code is a web-based computer-programming education resource for kids (ages 8+), teens, and adults. Learn how to code using Code Blocks, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL, and much more. This educational resource will teach users how to create video games, apps, websites, animations, programs, etc. Fiero Code provides courses, tutorial videos, contest events, and more.
