RECONCILIATION PROJECT: Community Building Youth Futures
Are you passionate about creating awareness and pursuing reconciliation in your community? Join the Reconciliation Project with CBYF Prince Albert! Open to students in grades 10-12, the task is for students to research their own culture, or another culture of their choice, and create a bridge between colonial experiences in Canada and worldwide. This will include understanding the historical facts of real events, how those events have affected cultural groups, and what that means for reconciliation efforts and pursuing a healthy dialogue and healing. Students are to create a three-part project and incorporate their ideas and research into: 

(1) a video or essay to present your research 

(2) an art piece that will represent your chosen research culture and the pursuit of reconciliation, and 

(3) a short story or poem that will support your art piece. 

All supplies needed to create the project will be provided by CBYF Prince Albert, as well as writing and research support. SCHOOL PHOTO RETAKES

Thursday, October 26th will be our picture retake day. Students who want to have retakes, please bring your original proofs with you. Photos will also be available for students who missed the first round of pictures. If you have yet to have your photo taken, please do as the photos will be placed in the yearbook and updated on Edsby. Students will also receive a free ID card. Listen for announcements throughout the day as to when to come down to the small gym.

SR FOOTBALL
The Sr Football team advances in playoffs to play against North Battleford on Saturday, October 28th. The game is at 2:00 pm in North Battleford.

GIRLS SOCCER
The Girls Soccer team is off to Provincials in Yorkton on Friday, October 27th. They play two games on Friday and if they win, they will play one game on Saturday. Wish them luck if you see them!

FREE OPEN ART STUDIO FOR YOUTH

Student ages 7 to 18 are invited to attend the FREE open art studio at the Margo Fournier Arts Centre (#1010 Central Avenue, the former Prince Albert Arts Centre). Sessions with instructor McKayla Evanovich are Thursdays from September 7 to December 21^st (5:00 pm to 6:30 pm OR from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm). All sessions are FREE!! Drop-in and leave a contact name and number.

5A GIRLS VOLLEYBALL PROVINCIALS: Volunteers Needed

École St. Mary High School will be hosting the 5A girls volleyball provincials on Friday, November 17^th and Saturday, November 18^th. Student volunteers are needed to help out at this event. Students who are interested in volunteering are asked to see Ms. McLeod or send her a message over Edsby. 

ÉCOLE ST. MARY SCHOOL CLOTHING STORE
The 2023-2024 school clothing store is now open. The deadline for ordering school clothing is Wednesday, November 15^th, 2023 and items should be ready for pick up before Christmas break. Northstar Trophies and Screen Printing will contact you when your order is ready for pick up. Their address is 987 Central Avenue and phone number is 306-922-4811. MONSTER MASH: Family Fun Event on Saturday, October 28^th

Join us for our newest Downtown event put on by the Prince Albert Downtown Business Improvement District. It starts at the Historical Museum at 5:30 pm. with Downtown Ghost Stories by Fred Payton. From there, join the Family Futures Zombie Walk up Central Avenue and then... the Monster Mash Dance located in the previous Sears location from 6 pm - midnight. All events are FREE and families, teens/adults are encouraged to dress up and have some community fun! Music is by Maxwell Music and draws will be made for gift certificates from our Downtown businesses. PARLIAMENT OF CANADA PAGE PROGRAM

Are you interested in Canadian politics and are in Grade 12? If so, the Parliament of Canada Page Program is for you! Students who will be graduating or have graduated from high school and be starting full-time or part-time post-secondary studies in September 2024 at the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Saint Paul University, Université du Québec en Outaouais, Collège La Cité or Algonquin College can apply to become a page at the Parliament of Canada. EDSBY MESSAGE: OVERDUE/LOST OCTOBER

In a few days, all Grade 9 – Grade 12 students with Overdue/Lost library books, textbooks, novel sets and calculators will be receiving an Edsby message titled “Overdue/Lost October” that will have a screen capture of their library account listing these items. A similar process will occur each month. All Grade 11 students and Grade 12 students with Overdue/Lost textbooks, novel sets and calculators will have these items added to their SchoolCash account. These items can be paid online (SchoolCash access on the division website at www.pacsd.ca) or in the main office. Please note that if an item on the SchoolCash is returned to the library, the main office will be notified to remove the item from the SchoolCash account. If an item is returned to the library after payment has been made, the main office will issue a refund. 

NATIONAL YOUTH REMEMBRANCE CONTESTS

The Legion National Foundation, in partnership with The Royal Canadian Legion and schools across the country, invite Canadian youth and children to honour Canada’s Veterans and foster the tradition of Remembrance through visual art, writing, and video. The contests include multiple levels of competition. Art poster and literary works compete first at the Legion Branch local level, with winning entries moving forward until they reach the provincial level. Video entries compete first at the Legion Command provincial level. Provincial finalists of all contests then move forward for final judging by the Legion National Foundation to determine the national winners. All winners at the national level are awarded a cash prize for their work. First Place Senior Winners are eligible for our most prestigious award – a trip to Ottawa and an opportunity to represent the youth of Canada at the National Remembrance Day Ceremony. Please contact the Legion Branch nearest you for their submission deadline. For more information, please go to https://www.remembrancecontests.ca/

KARATE CLASSES

Are you looking for a fitness and discipline activity? If yes, Prince Albert Budokai Karate is hosting its classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1405 Bishop Pascal Place (Elevation Academy Gym - Former Rivier). Beginners' classes are at 6 pm and advanced classes are at 7 pm. We welcome new and returning students. DRIVER EDUCATION 2023 - 2024

Students who are interested in the 2023 - 2024 driver education program are to register online through Microsoft Forms: 2023 - 2024 Drivers Ed Registration Form Mr. Bourdon will then place students into groups on Edsby. A reminder that spots fill up quickly, so it is important to select your three top options to best accommodate each student. 

The start dates for each session are as follows:

September 6 - 28 (after school)

October 2 - 23 (after school)

October 23 - December 7 (lunch hour)

November 1 - November 24 (after school)

December 11 - January 19 (after school)

January 31 - February 29 (after school)

March 4 - March 25 (after school)

March 4 - April 24 (lunch hour)

April 8 - April 26 (after school)

May 1 - May 23 (after school)

July 2 - July 10 summer class (9:00am - 1:00pm)

Please note the following:

·         Students must be 15 years old by the start of the session.

·         Sessions will be in the Room 246.

·         All sessions begin at 3:30pm and end at 5:30pm. (except for the summer/lunch sessions).

·         During your driver education class, you will need:

·         your birth certificate

·         your MYSGI account number. (needed on the first day of class)

·         Students must go to SGI to get their MySGI customer number.

·         a pencil/pen and notebook
