DAY 1
MORNING PRAYER
Yesterday, April 17th, was the feast day of St. Kateri Tekakwitha. She was
born in a Mohawk village in 1656. When
Kateri was four, a smallpox epidemic killed her mother, father
and younger brother, leaving Kateri with impaired vision and a scarred
complexion. An uncle and some aunts raised her. Kateri was a hard worker,
leading a quiet life because of her limited vision, but helping her community
with the harvest, wood-gathering, sewing, and her many hours of prayer. She
died on April 17, 1680, at the age of 24. She was canonized on October 21,
2012.
Loving God,
Thank you for the example of St. Kateri
who teaches us that prayers are important
and that we can all do small things
to make this world a better place.
May St. Kateri look upon us and offer our prayers to you.
Through Christ our Lord,
Amen
St. Kateri, . . . pray for us.
