 CLASS OF 2020 SCHOLARSHIP DATABASES
February to June is the peak scholarship time for grade 12 students. Students are encouraged to visit the links under the “Scholarship” tab on the SMHS Career website at http://pa.pursueonline.com/

CLASS OF 2020 GRAD PHOTO APPOINTMENTS
Grad photos will be taken Monday, March 9th – Thursday, March 12th. While students are not required to purchase grad photos, the cap and gown photo is needed for the yearbook and large photo composite that will be placed in the school. Students are also invited to have photos taken in sport uniforms or with accessories such as band instruments. Students are encouraged to contact Mrs. Kopchynski for an information brochure or if they require assistance or access to a computer.
Students are to book their own photo appointment by following the steps below:
1) Visit  https://prestigeportraits.ca   
2) If this is your first time scheduling an appointment, see “No Code?/Locate your school” and select the province & city.
3) Select your individual school.
4) Click on – "Schedule Now" and create an account:
Step 1 – Select your school
Step 2 – Enter your legal name (listed the way the school has it recorded).
Step 2 – Click - "Schedule your appointment"
Step 3 – Enter your email address . Add another email address if you want (ie: parent’s email)
Step 4 – Include your mobile phone number to receive reminders (optional)
Step 5 – Pay for Grad proofs in advance, if purchasing proofs. (This makes check-in easier at your grad photo session.)  
Step 6 – Retain your Appointment Code in the event changes are required. (The Appointment Code will be emailed.)
Step 7 – A confirmation notice and information will be sent to your email address.
** Prepare for the photo session by reviewing the information that is emailed to you.

SHSAA REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING TOURNAMENT
École St. Mary High School will be hosting the regional tournament on Saturday, February 29th from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. The concession will serve drinks, snacks and light lunch. Admission is $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students and the public may use the front or north doors to enter and support the athletes.

BASEBALL REGISTRATION – NOW OPEN
With the crack of the bat, there’s a collective gasp from the stands…all eye are fixated on the ball as it sails over the right field fence! A HOME RUN!!! You triumphantly round the bases!

PRINCE ALBERT MINOR SOFTBALL REGISTRATION
Prince Albert Minor Softball Registration for the 2020 Season is now open for male and female athletes, age 4 to 19 years. Online-registration is available at www.paminorsoftball.com. In-person registration nights are Thursday, April 9th and Thursday, April 16th from 6 pm – 9 pm at Source for Sports in Prince Albert.     SKILLS CANADA SASKATCHEWAN
    The Skills Canada Saskatchewan provincial competition will take place Friday, April 3rd in Saskatoon; registration opens on Monday, February 3rd. The Northern Region Competition will take place on Wednesday, March 11th in Meadow Lake. There are three new competition areas for 2020: Middle-level Robotics (for grades 7-9 students), Indigenous Skill (Artwork) and Indigenous Skill (Beadwork). As it becomes available, information for these competition areas will be posted on the Skills Canada Saskatchewan website at skillscanadasask.com

    OFFICIAL LANGUAGES PROGRAMS
    Explore Youth Initiative (13-15 years old), Explore (16 years and older) and Destination Clic,offer youth the opportunity to travel and learn French. The deadlines to apply are February 15, 2020 (Explore) and March 31, 2020 (Destination Clic). Information brochures are available on the websites https://www.myexplore.ca/en/ and https://www.destinationclic.ca/fr/

    U of S SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS
    Students entering the U of S are eligible for numerous scholarships and awards. Students can see Mrs. Rapin in Student Services if they have any questions. 
    1)     Guaranteed Entrance Scholarships – Students will be considered for a Guaranteed Entrance Scholarship when they apply for admissions. These scholarships recognize academic achievements and are awarded based on the calculated admission average.
    2)     Competitive Entrance Awards – (Apply for admissions by Feb 15 & Apply for awards by March 1) These include numerous scholarships and bursaries that can be accessed by many students with diverse experiences. Applicants can be considered based on academic achievement, financial need and/or contributions to school and community life. All entering students are encouraged to apply. 

    QUEEN’S DIAMOND JUBILEE SCHOLARSHIP (Gr 12)

    The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship ($1000) is awarded to a Grade 12 student who will be attending a post-secondary institution in the fall. Four student qualities will be considered: school and/or community-based leadership, responsibilities outside of school, financial support needed and academic performance. École St. Mary High School can nominate one candidate and nomination is competitive. Please provide a list of school/community-based leadership, responsibilities outside of school, and a statement about financial need to Mrs. Rapin in Student Services by Friday, February 28th 2020 to be considered for nomination. The application deadline is March 15, 2020.


    PRINCESS OF WALES AND DUCHESS OF CORNWALL SCHOLARSHIPS (Gr 11)
    The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Scholarship ($500) is awarded to a Grade 11 student to assist in finishing their Grade 12 school year. Four student qualities will be considered: school and/or community-based leadership, responsibilities outside of school, financial support needed and academic performance. École St. Mary High School can nominate one candidate and nomination is competitive.     STACEY LEVITT MEMORIAL AWARD
    The Stacey Levitt Memorial Award was created in memory and celebration of Stacey’s life by her family through Parachute. This award encourages Canadian youth to embody Stacey’s qualities and ideals and Parachute’s overarching goals of a long life lived to the fullest, understanding the importance of risk management and injury prevention. The Levitt family awards each year’s selected recipient $2,500 to help them live their life to the fullest. The award could be put toward an educational endeavor, engagement in sports and investment in a travel experience. These pursuits would have resonated with Stacey, who loved school, sports and travel.     SASKATCHEWAN AGRICULTURE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
    For students passionate about speaking up and telling the story of agriculture, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is proudly offering the Agriculture Student Scholarship for the ninth consecutive year. Saskatchewan Grade 12 students and recent high school graduates (within the last two years) have the chance to win a grand-prize scholarship of $4,000 or one of three runner-up scholarships of $2,000 when they submit a three-minute video or 1,000-word essay detailing their food story. This year’s scholarship theme, ‘Our Food Has a Story’ encourages youth to have conversations with people about the relationship between agriculture and the food they eat. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be planning to take an agriculture-related post-secondary education program beginning in the fall of 2020. This scholarship program has been designed to identify young people who are planning to pursue an exciting career in the agriculture industry.     MANN ART GALLERY HIGH SCHOOL JURIED ART SHOW
    All high school students are invited to submit 1 original artwork for the chance to be juried in to the High School Juried Art Show. The show runs from April 6th to June 6th. Artwork must be given to Ms. Hawryluk by Friday March 27th.  Please see Ms. Hawryluk in the Art Room (B18) for more information.

    JUNIOR CITIZENSHIP OF THE YEAR: NOMINATIONS

    The Junior Citizen of the Year award has honoured the youth of Saskatchewan for over 40 years. The program is sponsored by The Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association, in partnership with SaskPower, and the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.  These prestigious awards are given to students who:

    ·        Have a positive lifestyle 

    ·        Are dedicated to community and school 

    ·        Have a strong sense of caring and responsibility

    ·        Have the ability to overcome life’s challenges

    ·        Inspire others

    ·        Are between ages 8 to 18 


    Four award recipients are chosen each year and receive a $3,000 bursary, provided by SaskPower, to be used for post-secondary education. For more information, please go to www.swna.com. The deadline for nominations is March 31st, 2020.


    VIMY PILGRIMAGE AWARD
    The Vimy Pilgrimage Award consists of a fully funded week-long educational program in Belgium and France to study Canada’s tremendous First World War contribution. The program, scheduled for April 2–10, 2020, is offered by the Vimy Foundation and features daily visits to important First World War sites including museums, cemeteries, and historic battlefields. A total of 20 students will be selected for the 2020 program. Applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay describing their volunteer work; a 500 word essay on a specific question or subject posted in the application form; a personal statement video; a resume detailing achievements, awards, and notable activities; and a reference letter from a teacher, guidance counselor or principal, service club, volunteer organization, etc. In choosing Award winners, the Award Committee will take into consideration all elements submitted for the application with special emphasis placed on the applicant’s volunteer work and service to their communities.
